Welcome Back! The RedHots are on fire today! Jess Witkins and I are revealing our own sassy stories and sharing those from a few of our friends! I’ll start with my own: Many years ago, when I was married to an Executive chef/restaurant owner, I sometimes helped hostess in his upscale Italian restaurant. The customers were mainly professionals, like doctors, stockbrokers, business owners, with a few local dignitaries thrown in. One evening, the restaurant was bustling and patrons were waiting 10-20 minutes for a table, even with a reservation. Keep in mind, these patrons were not used to waiting for anything. They had the power of prestige and wealth and were customarily given preferential treatment. At the hostess station I faced a line of 6 parties waiting. The first in line happened to be two doctors and their wives who were weekly customers. I knew where they preferred to sit. However, their regular table was occupied. This is how things Continue Reading

There was a time when I excelled at Goofing-Off and I was usually on top of my game. But, not too long ago, I went through a period where I was a slacker in the realm of goofing-off. Which means I worked too much and didn’t get as much done as I would have if I’d gotten back into goofing-off. I see that look on your face. Confused, right? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Have you seen that Weight Watchers commercial with Jennifer Hudson where she says, “I haven’t stayed thin because I don’t indulge in that ‘super-sized, loaded-with-cheese’ world we live in. I’ve stayed thin because I do indulge.”, or something like that? So, I get more done when I goof-off occasionally and Ms. Hudson stays thin when she has chocolate now and then. Hmmm. I suppose it follows, then, that spending too many hours focused on writing or being too rigid with your eating plan primes you for boredom and procrastination, which Continue Reading

Welcome to the 5th Edition of The RedHots! The RedHots 2012 Recap So Hot! vs So Not! Jess and I have recovered somewhat – she from working insane hours through the holidays and me from recurring double ear infections. We’re back to bring you the best and the worst of the RedHots’ 2012. SO HOT! I loved all of our RedHot posts, even when Jess and I fought over the 50 Shades of Grey Trilogy, (if you missed those fiery posts, you can read mine here). But, I have to choose where my deepest affections lie – with books/authors and learning something new. My SO HOT picks are our shared interview with Fabio Bueno on release of his wildly popular book, Wicked Sense AND my Feng Shui lesson from Elisa Cashiola. Right out of the gate, Fabio proved to be a terrific writer. No wonder his book is doing so well! Here are his stats as of this writing: #51 Continue Reading

Last week, I gave you a peek into my newest character, Sloane Reed, a private investigator. As I said then, she’s no wimpy girlie-girl. She’s soft and light as a powder puff when it serves her and hard and unbending as a brick wall when it’s time to get “the job” done. Since Sloane is strong-willed, she and I had been fighting over discussing what skills she’d like to have in her arsenal. She was excited with the idea of Tae Bo…until Inion N. Mathair, in her comment, suggested Sloane be an expert at Parkour. Well, that was the end of that ‘discussion’. I have a feeling Sloane will always get her way. She is now an expert in “l’art du deplacement…the art of moving fluidly through the environment by vaulting, rolling, running, climbing, and jumping.” In other words, Parkour. Last week, Piper Bayard posted a blog called Parkour Right There, offering three videos to give readers an idea just Continue Reading
