The Next Big Thing Blog Hop

Happy Birthday to me!

Today is my 60th birthday *cringing* and I’m happy to be participating in THE NEXT BIG THING blog hop so I don’t have to think about that awful number. Really, inside, I’m only about 35 and there are parts of my personality that are more like 19.

In fact, I hate the ever-rising numbers as indication of my years on this earth, so I doing away with numbers altogether!

I choose to mark my years by colors instead. My color for this year is Hot Pink! In fact that may continue to be my age/color for many years to come because that’s how I feel about myself. 60 sounds like an old lady in saggy stockings and dowdy housecoats. That is definitely NOT me! So, the next person who asks how old I am this year will be told, “I’m not old, I’m Hot Pink!”

Something tells me that makes me sound a little off my rocker, but I don’t care. I’d rather be kooky than old!

Now, the more sane and responsible adult in me is going to offer you an opportunity to join the blog hop or, at least check out all the blogs involved.

There is nothing more wonderful than the support of writer friends. that’s what this blog hop is all about! Let’s get out there and visit all the writers you know today, comment  on their blogs and tweet them, too!

It’s a Blog-o-licious Blast!

So, Welcome to The Next Big Thing!

Hundreds of writers are participating in this blog hop which means you get to learn more about their works in progress!

My friend, Leslie Berry, recruited me to join all the fun and I hope you’ll stop over at her place soon to read about her work in progress!

I’ve just begun a new project so, HERE WE GO!
1- What is the working title of your book?

  • Red Shield

2- Where did the idea come from for the book?

  • From a local news story combined with an old suspense movie and a real-life romance.

3- What genre does your book fall under?

  • Romantic suspense

4- Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie

  • Julianne Moore, Pierce Brosnan, George Clooney

5- What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

  • A female security operative for an international gem trader must see a shipment arrive at its destination before a thief gets his hands on it and sets in motion a series of murders, including her own.

6- Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

  • I will self-publish to retain control over all the elements from beginning to end…and for the satisfaction of doing it myself.

7- How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

  • The first draft is still in progress but, I expect it to take a total of 3 months.

8- What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

  • Any suspense story by Sandra Brown, Jeffrey Deaver, or Julie Garwood. I would love to see my stories reach the heights of these authors!

9- Who or What inspired you to write this book?

  • This, and all of my writing so far, is inspired by my love of story writing, my husband’s belief in my abilities, real news stories and life events – my own and those of acquaintances – and their interesting twists.

10- What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

  • Readers will love the romantic tension between two of the characters…but which two?

Tagged for next week (Week 29) is one of my very talented writer friends.

Lara Shiffbauer
Check out her blog next Wednesday, December 19th, when it’s her turn
to post answers to these same questions about her own work-in-progress!

Don’t forget to stop over at Leslie Berry’s blog, if you missed it last week!

What are you working on? Come on, share!

Happy birthday, wonderful lady! Your book sounds awesome. I love all things Garwoodesque. She’s always been one of my favorite authors. I will look forward to your newest book with bated breath.

By the way, hot pink is one of my favorite colors. Great choice!

Happy Birthday, Marcia! I love your book concept – sounds super cool and exciting! Wouldn’t that be a great cast for the film version? I think so!

Best of luck with the writing, Kathy 😀

Ooh, yeah, they’re some of my favorites! ONE of us has to have a movie version of our books! Oh yeah, my friend Tracy Garvis might. 🙂 Thanks for the positive comments on the book idea!

Happy Birthday Fabulous! You’re rockin’ the Hot Pink!! I don’t think you’ll ever be dowdy or wear housecoats ~ even if you did, it would be glammed up and gorgeous, like you!

I’m loving the new book idea. Can’t wait until we can all read it. Congrats!

Oh, it will be a while before anyone gets a look at it, Tameri. This one will be “ready” to be read. lol But I’m glad you’re looking forward to it! It’s a new idea for me and I pray i can pull it off!

On the ‘hot pink’, just emulating you, Gorgeous!

And, you’re one hot momma, Girl! Love the idea of colors instead of numbers. Mathair’s a lot like you, bright, bold and beautiful. She says she’s more of a Magenta, while I’m a fairly boring earth tone. Oh, well. Beige goes with everything. LOL Happy Birthday, Marcia. XOXO

Thanks, Sweets! Your mom and I have a little in common – mature woman who are rockin’ young at heart!

I don’t think earth tones are boring at all — they’re warm, earthy and comfy. Does that describe you? I’ll bet it does!

Happy Birthday Marcia! You share your birthday with my hubby, who is 62 today! I have dyslexia when it comes to birthday numbers, which next year mine will be the same no matter how I look at it, 55 is still 55! But today you are only 6, so let your inner child out and have some fun! Hugs for a super awesome day. Enjoy it, you’ll be glad you did.

Happy birthday! And — as you can see from commentluv, I wrote a post about this day because it is my father’s birthday! He isn’t wearing any houseboats either!

    Happy birthday, Marcia!

Best of luck on the new WIP!

    I can’t believe you’ll be done in 3 months.

    Good for you!

Thanks, Renee! Please wish your dad a happy birthday from a fellow Saggitarian! We’re awesome! He should an elegant smoking jacket!

Oh, my WIP won’t exactly be done in 3 months. If i finish the character sketches and a mini plot outline in the next couple of weeks, along with some work on my website and the holidays, THEN I’ll be able to complete a crappy 1st draft. It will probably take me two months or so to write a 2nd draft well enough for betas. Hopefully it won’t need a 3rd round of editing!

  8. Patricia Sands  December 12, 2012

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GIRLFRIEND! Marcia, you know I am older than you and “an old lady in saggy stockings and dowdy housecoats” is definitely not part of my description! Forget that. Be sensational in your sixties, it’s the only way to go! You are beautiful inside and out and I’m delighted to call you my friend. Now if we can just get to meet in person … {{{{sending birthday hugs and a shaker of chocolate martinis}}}}

Mmm…chocolate martinis! I’m so there! I’ll take the birthday hugs, too! We will meet–hopefully in 2013. I’m thrilled to call you “friend”, too, Patricia!

I’ll enjoy my new decade much more if i don’t think about the numbers! I’ll just be ‘me’ and stick with my usual cool wardrobe—no old lady clothes for me–EVER! 🙂
