I looked in the mirror today…oh, my!
While I believe I’m a sexy, smart and strong woman, I don’t think I dress like one.
I’m not letting my inner biker chick or my inner classy lady show on the outside.
I’ll bet you let your inner goddess show, right?
What DOES a sexy, smart and strong woman wear?
She wears clothing that makes her feel good…inside and out.
What does that mean to you?
- *slinky
- *comfy and loose
- *stylish
- *classically classy
- *bohemian
- *urban work attire
- *colorful and playful
- *active wear
- *figure-hugging
The SSS woman wears her confidence, joy, sensuality and verve in the cut and color of the cloth that enfolds her.
Depending on her mood, the colors may lighten or darken, be vibrant or subtle, always reflecting how she feels at that moment.
The colors you wear give off a message. Grab the first blouse from your closet that catches your eye. Don’t think about it. Put it on and look in the mirror. Does the color match how you’re feeling at that moment?
This list may give you insight to your color choices:
- *Red – passionate, powerful, fiery
- *Orange – energetic, vital, sociable
- *Yellow – positive, warm, courageous
- *Green - reserved, harmonious, circumspect
- *Blue – sensitive, calm, strong
- *Purple – individualistic, inspirational, creative
- *Brown – earthy, friendly, dependable
- *Black – sophisticated, edgy, powerful
I am NOT the fashion poster queen for Sexy, Smart and Strong Women…yet.
BUT, I plan to change all that. Right away.
I began playing at Polyvore. I’m so glad Jillian Dodd turned me on to that site. It’s such time-consuming fun!
Polyvore lets you create whole outfits from hundreds, no, thousands of clothing pieces. This is my first step in revamping my wardrobe to be more SSS.

Why not go make an outfit, post it on your blog and let me know how that reflects the inner YOU? I’d love to see your personal fashion style.

I’d never heard of Polyvore. What fun! I really like all the clothing you chose, Marcia. When I lost 50 plus pounds I really had trouble changing my wardrobe. You always hear about how people go out and do everything totally new but I kept finding some of my old big girl style slipping in. Blousy and Baggy. It took me forever, almost two years, to clear my closet of those clothes and I still have to work to do! I’m going to check this out and get in touch with my SSS. Thanks so much, it’s just the boost I needed!

I’m so glad, Kate! Yes, my wardrobe is like that, too. When you lose a good deal of weight, you don’t lose the insecurity about you looks all at once. it takes time and those big baggy clothes are comfortable to hide in until your comfortable with your new body. I hope most of your outfits show of your sleeker figure now. You deserve to show off how hard you worked to get there! Your SSS woman is there. I see her all the time on your blog, Kate.

That’s fantastic, Tameri! It’s how I’ve been thinking too. When I put on make up and fix my hair, dress in decent clothes, I feel more like the real me and more productive. I’m happy you discovered that, too!
I love this new toy – Polyvore! Those outfits are awesome, like Natalie, I want one of each! The pages are super cute, too. I can see this might become dangerous for me.
I totally need to embrace my inner SSS woman. I tend to schlump around the house in sweats (or jammies) and baggy t-shirts. My excuse is that I don’t see anyone, but I think if I primp up a bit, I might feel sexier, smarter, and stronger. As it is now, I feel like an adolescent ditching school.
That’s why we’re siestas, Tameri! I’m the same way! I wear my worst clothes because no one but hubs sees me and I’m just in my office most of the time. But I thought, if I dress a little more like I’m going to work, maybe I’ll act more professional. And when I go out, I’ll be much happier dressed in clothes like these! Let me know if you change your wardrobe!
I’ve been thinking about your post all night, Marcia. I even went to Polyvore and started to play around a bit.
Not only am I going to change my wardrobe, but this post has got me thinking beyond clothes to how my office is set up, how I approach each day, etc. You’ve sparked something in me and I’m excited for things to change. It’s all fine and well to be a writer, hidden away in my office, but we’re business women, too and I need to embrace that, not run from it.
That’s terrific, Tameri! Exactly! We have to become professionals as opposed to amateurs (Steven Pressfield said so!) Can’t wait to see your changes happen! If you re-do your office, which I think is already gorgeous, or your writerly wardrobe, please share!

Love the new site, Marcia. Polyvore. Oh, my. And I thought I could fiddle the day away dressing my Yahoo Avatar!
Thanks for coming by, Sherry!
Polyvore, oh that looks like so much fun, Marcia. I need to go play. My SSS wear these days consists of PJ’s and sweats. LOL. But when I go out, I like to dress in classic blazers and pants or slinky dresses. Okay, gotta go check out that site now…

Have fun, Sheila! Classic never goes out of style! We’re from that generation where blazers, loafers and tailored pants were a hit!
This is such a fun post, Marcia! I love the idea of creating the styles on Polyvore. Your outfits are fabulous, and I wish I could just reach out and pluck them out of my screen.
As for the colors… I would have a hard time choosing just one. It depends on a day – sometimes I’m a red girl, sometimes white, and often black.

When I was young, I wore a lot of white and I do love red accents, too! You’d look gorgeous in red, Angela!
What fun! My style is definitely Bohemian. I can’t pass up a thrift store!
I love Bohemian…so down to earth and comfortable. I love to see some pieces in your wardrobe sometime!
Marcia, I love the outfits you created! Polyvore looks like a great site and I’ll pop over to check it out as soon as I finish the revisions I’m working on. *tunnel vision* here at the moment. Rock on with your fabulous ideas!

Thanks, Patricia! Good luck with those revisions!
OMG I want one of EACH!!! Those are some stunning outfits Marcia. And I couldn’t agree more. It doesn’t matter what physical size you are, dressing in such a way that makes you feel hot, sexy, and empowered is well worth the effort and time. Hubby recently showed me the errors of my ways when I wouldn’t shop to accommodate my growing bode and I am so thankful. Ever since, I’ve been putting on things that fit and make me feel absolutely wonderful…every single day! There’s nothing better…clothes don’t “make” the woman but they certainly can help us feel incredible so why not?!?!
Polyvore sounds fahhhbulous. I’ll be setting up an account and have FUN sometime soon. Squeeeee…
